Or maybe if someone needs it, I can recover a little of the cost of the part...

ya...i cleared them every time i made a change. I didn't interchange 2 and 3, but changed 2 with 1 and 3 with 4. Same error on 2 and 3, but there is no dtc now, just really rough running engine. within the vag, you can see which cylinders are misfiring, and 2 and 3 were still misfiring, but no dtc...Hmmm...
maybe you want to let me borrow your power stage to find out...![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I don't know what to do...

If you're in Colorado you can definitely use my power stage to see if that fixes the problem!! If not... Maybe a local AW member will be kind enough to do the same (Ed?)?
If it turns out that it is the power stage, and if my original is still good, I'd be more than happy to work something out if you're interested!

I'd say your problem is looking to be less of a coil pack problem and more of a power stage issue (or possibly the connectors as A4-Aranda mentioned). The constant is with cyl 2 and 3- The power stage supplies current to all the cylinders, so I'd see if swapping a good one on makes any difference...

do you know anyone in salt lake? I'm not familiar with anyone here who drives an audi, much less be willing enough to let me take parts out of his car to try in mine...

like i said before...i tried measuring voltage through the 4 way plug and all had power except for pin 3... Where does the 4 way go? Where does the 5 way go as well??? I'm not that familiar with it. I wouldn't think it's a connector problem either cause that would go with the coil when I moved it. Hmmm...this really sucks.
I wonder if it could be a problem with the cables to the coils... If your more familiar with the system, a summary would be nice and helpful. Thanks for the help!

I was just having a hard time making sense of all the steps cause they were kind of vague. Also, it says they use some sort of vw wiring thing to do some of the tests, and I don't know what that is...If you know anything about it, i would appreciate the help!

Maybe my friend Hoki (Wamp) can help you track someone down with a '97 - '99.5 1.8T?
As for your posting above- It is very possible that the problem is with the power stage, especially if pin #3 is not producing any power. The 5-in I would think is current going in on the 4 pins and maybe the 5th is a ground? The 4-out would be the amplified current going to the coil packs. I could be wrong, but this is my theory. If pin #3 isn't producing power, then it's definitely not sending anything to the ignition coil (hence the misfire).
