As noted I have a '97 A4 with the non-tip Auto. Recently I've noticed a hesitation as the tranny downshifts while decelerating. As the transmission changes from 3rd to 2nd and from 2nd to 1st, there is a hesitation (holding the higher gear) and then a "thunk" as it engages the next gear. There has been no deterioration of tranny performance during acceleration (nor for kick-down).
Any ideas?? Torque converter related? Major/minor tranny problem?
One other thing, would it be worthwhile having the ATF changed? Does Audi offer a tranny service (flush/fill, new filter, check and adjust bands)??
Any help from the resident gurus would be greatly appreciated.

i HAVE A 98 A4 1.8T Quattro. This seems to happen a bit, am unsure if it is a tranny problem, or just the way the automatic transmission shifts?
I should have bought a standard, they are faster anyway
