Has anyone who received a Y2K model, have the Navigation system, and if so, how does it work. My dealer has a few coming in with it, and I am contemplating whether or not to get it. I read in Car and Driver that it was a good system, but I'd like to hear first hand if anyone has experience with it?

In the us, the navigation system is controled from the trip computer on the instrument cluster and the controls which consist of a cylindrical *** and four or five buttons are located just in front of the parking break. To imput a destination, the driver (while parked) must insert the cd to a device just above the cd changer in the trunk, hit the nav button on the nav controls and then use the cylinder to scroll through possable destinations. Then it relays directions and voice commands back to the driver. This system is basically the same as the one found on the a8 which was reviewed in car and driver (it may be in motor trend instead) this month. The european system on the a6 and a8 was reviewed a few months ago by this site and is about the same, but it adds a 5.8in lcd display. They avoided using it in the us due to the reduced cost and the claim that it avoids distracting the driver. I disagree, for I have a 5.8in lcd based nav system in my a4 (clarion system about $4k) and could not live without the voice command based system and cool maps that it offers). The bottom line is this: the audi nav system is great, especially for $1100, but as is always true in life, you can always pay more and get a better system.
