Need advice on new tires for A4
Any suggestions on replacing the 16 inch stock Continental tires that came with my A4? Performance is not as important to me as good handling in the rain - I live in Seattle afterall. Thank for any comments.

You said 16 inch Continentals?
I presume that you are talking about the sports package tires. I didn't realize that the A4 came with Continentals (I know Passats do!). I've seen 16 inch Dunlops and Pirellis on the A4.
cessna_Joe

Re: Need advice on new tires for A4
I've got the same 205/55/16 Continentals on my 98.5 2.8Q (and live in Seattle). I don't plan on going with separate summer/winter tires, so am thinking ultra high perf all seasons and like the looks of the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Asymmetrical. Check out tirerack.com for prices and comparisons. I'd be interested to hear what you go with. Also at what mileage are you making the change and are you sticking with the same size? I'm at 29K on the original tires and am wondering if 225/50/16 will fit without any mods.

Re: Need advice on new tires for A4
Erik, thanks for the tip on tirerack.com. I haven't decided on what to get as replacements for the Continental Touring Contacts. I plan to call these guys in the morning to discuss some of the many options. I am at 30k miles and the wear bars are showing pretty prominently.
Also, my fiance banged a curb yesterday and tore chunks of rubber out of the side wall of one of the front tires so I guess it's time to shop for new tires.
I'm also considering getting new rims but will probably stay with the same size. When I call these guys tomorrow, I will ask about the 225/50/16s and if they will fit. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks for your help.
Pearl '97 1.8TQAS

Re: Need advice on new tires for A4
Erik, I tried to call the Tirerack guys yesterday but kept getting a busy signal. I got thru today and talked to Eddie, the Audi guy. He's at x369. He told me that 225/50/16s would fit the A4 just fine.
I'm trying to decide if I should go 16" or 17". If I go 17, then I think I will go with the Dunlop Sport 5000s.
by the way, where did you get your A4? I bought mine from Barrier. They just started evening service hours. They are now open till 2am believe it or not.
Good luck.

Good to hear about the size...I would like to go a little wider. I wish I was moving up to 17s too. How the hell you manage that with a fiancee? I've been married 3 years and don't see that happening any time soon.
Check out the Wheel & Tire Forum. Eddie's all over that. The more I read about the SP5000's the more I like them. Tirerack compares them alongside Pirelli P7000's, Bridgestone Potenza RE910, and Yokohama AVS S4V's, and they seem to be good overall performers. Tire pattern's a little over-agressive looking, though.
Got my A4 (used) at Barrier also and just found out about the night hours. Might work for me if they did loaners but I guess they don't want to loan out high end cars...that's BS. In fact, I go in for 30K service on Aug 23. Do you wait as long as I do for their service dept to return calls?
Have you ever been to a NW Quattro Club event? I went to PIR last Feb and Bremerton this spring...absolute BLAST.
