I did a search but didnt really come up with anything helpful. I installed a K04 about 2 weeks ago and lost most of my coolant - filled it with water for now. The coolant thats currently in the car is brown in color and mostly water so I want to change it. Are there any how-tos anywhere on how to do it? Also..can I buy the G12 coolant right from the dealer? I'm gonna get a new resevoir since mine is stained brown, anything else I should change while I'm at it? Also, is there a flush I should run through the system before filling it with fresh coolant? It's really brown. heh.
also - how much coolant do I need?
Thanks

pull a lower rad hose to drain. refill until it hits the max line. start engine. put heat on HI. add coolant mix as necessary. wait for the Tstat to open for it to "burp" system. (If you feel the top hose, it'll be cold until the tstat opens.) keep adding until it stays just below the max line. drive. let it cool down. add, if necessary.
this won't get the coolant out of the block, tho.

The picture that Yippers had is gone, but basically you're looking for a pair of hoses running through the firewall. They will probably be covered by a piece of corrugated plastic.

I wish I only had one car to maintain and could pretend to be a big-shot and throw away money everytime I did cooling system work. Unfortunately, I take care of quite a few Audis and other German cars, so I don't have the luxury of throwing away money. I have to actually *learn* what the product in question is. Last I checked, WalMart SUPERTECH LL coolant was the same exact thing for $7/G. How much do you pay for G-12 again?

using either is better than the generic $.89 oil that you can buy at your local no-name gas station.
all I know is that the coolant that came out of my car when I did the 60k service tastes the same as the stuff that went in.

It's not like ST LL Coolant is watered-down or impure or lacking in some feature, it still meets the relavent specs and it's the SAME product. They are both in a class of coolant/antifreeze corrosion inhibitors called "Organic Acid Technology". I can tell you what every single chemical in the additive package is and what it does. That's exactly why I use a "Hybrid Organic Acid Technology" coolant, G-05... in a word, because Dexcool "sucks".
