Hey all!
I'm looking for a used car to lower my monthly payments, and found 2 finally (I'm super picky). I've never had an Audi before, and am looking at an A4 and an A6.
I'm looking at a '98 A4 Quattro.
Any problems or things I need to beware of? I want to get a feel for an Audi before I go out and drop money on one.
Thanks!

Buy an Audi and, chances are, you'll keep dropping money. It's a wonderful car, but not that fast, and expensive as hell to maintain. Buy a Jetta or a Passat.
I love my car, but kind of like a family member. If I didn't feel attached to it, I would get rid of it faster than you could say "vorsprung durch technik."

Ditto on that. Note that under the skin a Passat is pretty much the same beast as an A4, so in light of your economic goals I would not suggest that either; I have no experience with a Jetta, but it's also in the same family - OK, the suspension is a LOT simpler, but the rest of the parts are similar.
We love our A4 and how it drives, but it is definitely not a Camry in terms of maintenance (my brother abused his Camry to about 350,000 miles before the transmission died).

I drove my passat to 350K kms till the control arm came apart...pure neglect - the engine was mint. My 01 A4 1.8t is hands down a better ride than the 98 passat 1.8T. The suspension is tight for stock with a good ride hight, quiet ride and better finish on the interior. The Passat rode like a farm tractor. I would say get a used one with the timing belt, water pump, etc already done (get it at around 120-150k km) and then expect small stuff like brakes, regular synthetic oil changes, the odd ICM, and control arms. Buy a bentley manual and have fun doing stuff yourself....you will save tons of money. NEVER, EVER go to the stealership for anything, frikin bastards.....find a good vw/audi indi shop instead.
