Default Need help - cruise control 1.8T

I've a '99 A4Q 1.8T automatic, and I'm trying to diagnose the cruise control. Bought the car about a year ago, and was the told the motor had been replaced in it...car runs great, but the cruise control has never worked. So, first thing I checked was the fuse, but there was no fuse and no wires for a fuse holder coming into the back of the fuse block to hold the cc fuse. So I thought maybe the car didnt have cc as an option when it was original...but it has the cc on the turn signal stalk, the vacuum pump and linkage on the throttle body under the hood - so everything else makes it look like it should have cc. Not having a place for a cc fuse has me a bit stumped...have tried to trace wires under the dash and kick panel to see what I'm missing but its difficult to follow it all. Would appreciate any help.
Thanks

This is very good. Takes you through the entire system. Before you do anything though, you might want to spray some contact cleaner in the switch on the stalk. That is a known trouble spot for B5 cruise control. Then go through this artcle.
