...after doing a search on the forum, I'm still no where closer to the answers.

The stock leatherette seats have been killing me. After three months of every single permutation with the power controls, I still can't find a position that really suits me. So, I'm thinking of going after market.

Specifically, i'm thinking of buying a pair of used Recaros, and recovering the seats completely to match the interior of my car. I was thinking perhaps leatherette sides with alcantara or cloth inserts.

So, my questions are:
a) has anyone recovered these seats before? What price should I be looking at per seat, labor only, excl. material
b) While recovering, is it possible to install some form of seat heating mechanism, to retain my winter package function? I guess with cloth or alcantara, cold seats might be less of an issue
c) airbags - I have a 98. I assume that came with the side airbags. I understand that the sensor can be bypassed by a 3ohm resistor. At the end of the day, how much of a safety issue will this be? Afterall, after 10+ years of driving, the A4 has been my first car with side airbags.
d) I understand that Wedge Engineering in CA makes brackets. Do they make them for the SE as well, and how much? (yes, I know, I can call them up)
e) does this all make sense or should I try to buy a pair of used A4 sports seats? My end goal is to spend less than $1000, preferably closer to $500 for total costs.
f) anyone out there with a pair of A4 sport seats for sale?
