Default Need help on exact Cam Position -- 1999 Audi A4 2.8l 30V (Engine AHA)

Long story short, I have lost complete compression on my cylinders. I have replaced the timing belt and initially when I was hand cranking the engine, I would feel the engine cranking hard at a point where it seems the cam lobes would start hitting the valves. Right now however, there is almost no compression. I am afraid the Cam Sprockets have have spun more/less than the cams have. I basically need an exact picture of where eachof the cams ought to be? I am thinking I have to remove the sprocket out just a little so I can time the cams. Once the cams are in place, I would put the sprocket on and tighten the bolt.

I have not replaced the cam chain. I didn't have to.

Please please please...I am stuck.

TIA

Mines an A6 2.8 30V AHA. Should be the same thing. Here's the post I used to make sure they were right.

Start by reinstalling the crank locking pin and checking cam timing with the locking bar.

This isn't really rocket science; the tools should verify that everything is lined up.

^^Ditto.^^ If you time that right, you purposely loosen the cam sprockets. There is no mark to get them back to timed with the cams. You let them spin, put it in timing using the tool, then tighten the sprockets down on the cam shafts.

If I recall correctly from when I did mine it was a pretty easy 16 on the passenger side and a "hold you tongue right" 15 on the driver's side.

It's easy to look at the passenger side because you are looking straight at it. The driver's side is harder to get a straight shot at.

Pay attention to the process. Get the crank lock in and the cam bar on. A shortcut will surely grenade the engine. Of course then you get to do it all over after a visit to the machine shop.
