Need Help with Fan Pulley Removal - Help

I have a 97 A4 1.8T. I am in the process of replacing the water pump. I have the front end of the car in the "service" position.
My manual instructs me to remove the fan pulley by using a spanner wrench to hold the pulley still while loosening the "central nut" between the fan clutch and the pulley. I DO NOT HAVE THIS CONFIGURATION. I only have a smooth surface between the fan clutch and the pulley. There is no nut or anything of that nature.
I am hoping that someone has "been here" and "done that".
Any help is appreciated.
I am new to the Audi engine so be patient.

you can remove that and take it all out. It's a good size allen head I think. It's easier to deal with the fan assembly on the bench.
Also IIRC it may be a reverse thread? Not sure on that, my Bentley manual is at the shop.

overly familiar with the fan assemblies on the motor. I have only had to deal with one on a 2000 1.8T and that was to simply remove it 100% and install a shorter belt. In that case it was one bolt coming in from behind.

* Viscous fan, removing and installing
1. Lock carrier in service position
2. Ribbed belt free of tension
- Secure belt pulley for viscous fan with 5 x 60 mm bolt and remove using hex socket wrench.
- Remove viscous fan.
- When installing viscous fan, tighten to 45 Nm (33 ft lb).
* Allen wrench will work instead of the bolt!
Insert it into a slot in viscous fan clutch assembly body and into the pulley.
Hope this helps.
