Recently my temp gauge has been acting up again so yesterday I went to the dealer and picked up a new ECT sensor. I specified for the guy to get me the sensor for my '01 1.8. In the tech article for changing this sensor if states that the sensor is located in the back of the motor, in front of the battery. The new sensor that I got looks nothing like the sensor in that location on my motor so I looked elsewhere. I found a sensor which I believe is my ETC sensor on a coolant hose coming off the bottom of the radiator on the drivers side. The new sensor went in and hooked up to the harness no problem but my temp gauge still wont budge. It sits below the lowest setting and wont rise. When it does rise it will go to the middle then eventually fall back to below C which is the same symtoms that many people have when their sensor goes bad. I assume that I found the bad sensor and the 2001 model locates the ECT sensor in a different location then previous years. My question is did I get the wrong sensor or do I need to replace the sensor on the top back of the motor near the battery even though it looks nothing like the tech article? BTW I did search but I'm at work and am pressed for time so any ideas will help. TIA Here's a pic of the sensor I replaced
