The clutch install went well, and the car drove fine for a while. when my mechanic got back to the garage, he couldn't engage any gears.

They re-bled the system, and now if they press all the way down on the clutch, they can't get into any gear. if they press half-way, they can change gears.

is this symptoms of a bad slave cylinder or master cylinder? any input appreciated.

If it can help, when the stock clutch "blew up", the clutch pedal fell to the floor...it came back up after a while.
