I have an aftermarket headunit from which i am running pre-outs to the amp for the rear speaker and also for a subwoofer not in the car right now. These preout cables are gounded at both ends to the car. I have a power, ground, and remote lead wired to the amp. I have the rear speakers wired to the amp. What am I missing?

You need
Signal Source - Pre Out wires
Line Out Converter (stock HU)
Power - cable from battery to amp
REMOTE - (blue) wire from the HU to the Amp (this might be what you grounded) If you run a small wire from the power line to the remote line will the Amp light up? if so you need a remote line from the HU to the Amp

i have the remote, power, and ground to the amp. The RCA wires I have had a middle like 22 gauge wire and that is what i grounded in the front and rear of the car. The speakers were working fine until i removed the sub and they would cut out. Now im getting nothing

most RCA's come with that little wire between them so you can use it as a remote turn on to the amp but it doesn't matter if you use it or use your own. Personally I wouldn't ground that wire because you are more likely to pick up road noise from the vehicle. Check to see if the wires you took out of your sub box are touching, if they are it will screw up your sound. Your problem sounds simple enough like most car audio problems it's probably something stupid. If the amp's power turns on and no sound then it's either the signal to the amp (RCAs) or speaker wire from the amp to the speakers.

if you took the sub out and the rear speakers are now cutting out I really think that the sub wires are probably touching somehow. Make sure the wires aren't touching and the terminals are clear of each other
