Default Need New brakes, suggestions?

Well, Its finally time to replace the brakes! and i wanted to go towards aftermarket brakes over the OEM stock ones this time, and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions, advice, etc..
I was leaning towards the Green/Red Stuff Pads from EBC.

I'm also going to replace the rotors and Calipers(might as well to preserve brake life) and was wondering if there were any good brands for those as well.
As far as rotors go, i've been reading mixed things about slotted and cross drilled rotors, also about zinc vs powder-coated and silver plated ones.. any help there?

I do a bit of "spirited driving" every once and a while, and i want some decent brakes and rotors to fit those needs.

Thanks!

Go with the A8 rotor upgrade - you can get slotted crossdrilled rotors and paint the calipers too. The rears only need to have the matching rotors. Go for pads that are low dust

Default Go with the A8 "Big Brake" upgrade.

I also went with Axxis Ultimate's and both changes made a noticed improvement in performance.

Go slotted and/or drilled only if you want the look.

Default What pads and rotors do what, explained:

You will want slotted rotors to help dissipate heat from the rotor. Slotted and drilled rotors do the same thing but realistically, slotted and drilled rotors are only going to see gains over slotted on the track. Slotted will see gains just doing rush hour commutes. By gains, I mean that the brakes cool faster, thus retaining their braking ability longer. However, slotted and drilled rotors just look nice!

As for pads either the EBC Redstuff or Hawk HPS pads are the way to go here. Quite possibly, these are the best pads for the money.

Now, as for increasing braking power. You will need some sort of big brake kit if you want to stop faster. A larger rotor adds better leverage. As such, we carry an awesome kit that utilizes OEM components. Basically, this upgrades your stock front brakes to TT front brakes. The difference in diameter is 312mm versus your stock 288mm rotors. This brake kit is incredibly affordable and gives you that little extra without going to a serious $1000 BBK. This TT kit also utilizes normal A4 pads.

Here are some links to get you going:
OEM sized rotors - some on sale

Audi TT BBK for the A4 - Currently on sale too

Pads - also currently on sale

Thanks!
I ended up going with slotted/crosdrilled. For the look, but mostely because my friend had them on his ford escort, and said they gave him a noticeable increase in braking distance over his stock ones.
I went with the low dust pads that came with them, but will probably get EBC greens if these dont last as long as they say they should.

I would like to paint my calipers, as i live in an area that gets a decent amount of snow a year, and also the salted roads arent friendly to cars in this area, and would help keep them from rusting out as fast..
would i need to get new ones if they are covered in rust? or can i just use a wire brush and take off all that rust and then paint them?
what would i need to do/have to paint them?
thanks!

I think your choice should depend on your driving style, and track usage. I think the suggestions for going with an upgraded Audi system like S4 brakes or an A8 setup are good if you dont track or have a high HP car. IF you do have a car that has extreme acceleration, you exceed 150mph, or track the car you need to go a bit more than an Audi based upgrade. I have a car that does have extreme acceleration, exceed 150 mph regularly and does track, so I have Alcon 4 piston calipers and free floating 13"+ rotors and the brakes perform flawlessly in all conditions - I also use the stock rear brakes w/uprated Hawk pads as it shows the best brake balancing with this setup. I have also run Porsche Big Reds with larger rotors 13"+ and they do a good job but are not the equal of the Alcons. I would stay away from the drilled rotors due to wear, and no real benefit IMO, but slotting seems to be a good thing. As far as life, cryo freezing has worked best for me, extending life of rotors greatly. If you dont run 400hp or track constantly I would stay with the S4/A8 brake setups. You can probably pick these up reasonably and they will be adequate, stock rotors can be frozen as well.

You will have to clean them and get the rust off. sandpaper and brake cleaner spray. Mask off the rubber parts.

You want the epoxy (two part) paints.

Slotted and drilled rotors are just marketing hype. Modern brakes don't suffer from out-gasing like they used to. Better off just getting quality plain rotors from a company like Zimmerman and pairing it with a set of good street pads.

My $.02...
