Default Need thoughts on a clutch replacement and large service estimate

OK here are the items sorry I couldnt format it a little better. Is this a good price, also any explanation of what the tie rod work entails would be nice. I may just sell the car its only worth a bout 6k ans I am assuming I am going to have another large expense in six months dealing with breaks or tires or suspension.

Default flywheel is high

They are killing you on the flywheel. I've seen lightweight, single-mass flywheels for $175. I'm assuming they are talking single-mass, not dual-mass like the OEM part.

Tie rods just go between the steering mechanism and steering knuckle. It's a pretty simple job and should include an alignment afterwards. The A4 needs a 4-wheel alignment. Never get a 2-wheel alingment as it is a waste of time and money.

Is the estimated labor time correct?

These guys have been pretty honest in the past.

Default not sure

always service my own cars. I haven't been to a mechanic in years. Ask them about a single-mass flywheel with a matched clutch. It could save some money. Or resurface the existing dual-mass if anyone nearby is capable of that and the flywheel is within tolerances.

Default they said it might be able to be machined they wont know tell they see it

but its unlikely. I could also request a single mass flywheel but I am more concerned about the tie rod labor. Tempted to bail from the audi.

Default tie rod ends

by themselves are actually not that big a deal, if you're somewhat mechanically inclined. There's a writeup around here somewhere, but in short, jack the car up (on stands!), remove wheels, loosen tie-rod end (TRE) jam nut (18mm + 2mm wrenches), loosen and remove pinch bolt, yank out tie rod end fron knuckle, unscrew from steering linkage. Forget measuring the distance on the old TRE's, just screw the new ones in 22 turns and you'll be close to the factory toe setting. Get an alingment after that.

May help to spray everything with PB plaster and let soak for a few hours. Depends on where you live. Us southerners have it easier than the northern folks, with salty roads and all.
