neuspeed shifter info
The Neuspeed shifter for the earlier model cars replaces the shift box with the OEM parts from the later model cars, so they get rid of the push-down feature.
I used to think that the push-down reverse lockout was a great feature. But when I installed my Neuspeed shifter on my 98.5 car, I am SO GLAD I did. I do not miss the push-down feature at all. Especially looking at the mechanism for the push-down reverse on the original shifter -- it introduces so much extra slop into the shifter.
The A4's shifter is not that slick to begin with, even with a shortshifter (I am used to an Acura shifter). The push-down feature makes it worse.
I highly recommend the Neuspeed shifter, cost no object. I think it is my favorite mod.
