This is what we heard today at pick up. This seems like a huge gap on the oil changes - dealer will change oil more frequently if we pay to do it and is not advising us not to do so. 10K miles on an oil change? I'd normally think to do a change at least twice a year regardless of mileage.

Actually, the mechanic I talked to at my dealership recommended I change my oil every 3000. He mentioned those huge intervals are a problem. It's pretty dusty where I live and I drive my car hard. So I pay the $25 per oil change... You get a free car wash with it too.

They probably figure that the oil can go between filter changes (which are already on the schedule you listed). They also may be adding a system like on new Bimmers where the milage to service is "fluid" and goes up ad down depending on how hard (or not) the car is driven. BMW dealers WILL NOT accept the car for service until the service light actually goes on, even if there is only 500 miles left! Ask me how I know ;-)

She had her heart set on a Bimmer since she was a teenager, so when she had the money she couldn't be dissuaded from getting a 323i sedan (which she just replaced last fall with a loaded 325i, damn that nav system is NICE).
Of course guess who gets to do all the mods to it? Yep. I've done the factory clear corners all around, installed the cd changer and alarm, and replaced her wood trim with the matte aluminum sport trim from the 330i.
