Since new, it has had a slight leak from the transmission, The first time I brought it in, the dealer said they could find no leak. The second time, they admitted there was a leak, but claimed to have fixed it by "tightening the shift rod cap." I brought it home, and it still was leaking.
Now it's in for the third time for the same problem. It has been in the shop since Monday morning, and today they ordered a new drain plug because the old one was "stripped!"
I find it hard to belive that the factory would have stripped the drain plug. My guess is that, after all this messing around with the tranny, the dealer over-torqued the plug, and stipped it (and probably damaged the tranny in the process).
What can I do? Is this a lemon law candidate? Would contatcing AoA be useful, or a waste of time?
Thanks in advance,

Not a lemon low candidate yet..the car should be fine. If they stripped it, I dont' think it will hurt the tranny any, as long as they put in a new drain plug. Watch the drain plug from now one to make sure the tranny housing wasn't stripped as well. If that is stipped, you should get a new tranny.<p>Christian J. Long

But, is there anything really wrong with it, other than the fact that they couldn't fix the problem on the first try? It might be more trouble than it's worth, if the problem is finally solved. But if there are other problems, I would definitely keep my options open if I were you.

come from factory with stripped oil drain plugs or tranny plugs. Not sure why. Unlikely dealer is trying to cover up a mistake, but not impossible.
