Default New to B5s, just purchased a 2000 A4 Avant 30V and have a couple questions.

Hey all, I've been over on the B4 80/90 board for quite awhile now, but just recently purchased a 2000 A4 Avant (5spd,30V) and am loving it. I do however have a few questions.

First, sometimes when I start the car, the gas gauge does not initialize and reads empty. The auto check system (driver information display?) also displays the gas warning. Only thing is, I have a full tank. Sometimes after a few minutes of driving, it kicks in and displays properly. Other times I have to turn the car off and on again to get it to read the tank level. I searched this forum quickly for this issue (although it admittedly was probably a poor effort) and didn't find any obvious similar issues. Sending unit going bad?

Also, and I know this is covered is great extent and is a very common problem, but the driver information display works poorly in the cold, and not at all once the car warms up. Are they any replacement or repair options that don't include swapping clusters completely?

Thanks for any responses!

I'd try the easy fix first; some Techron fuel additive. Runs $6/bottle at Wal-Mart.

That's the fuel gauge issue? I assume it's a problem with the sending unit then?

Default Yeah, fuel gauge issue. It says right on the bottle it helps with that issue

As for your DIC issue, there are a handful of untested repair centers that we've heard about. I don't immediately recall any posts reviewing said services.

The other option is just to turn it off altogether and forget about it.
