you'll need a powered sub with a good system
anyways...
for now, i'd say use a line level convertor,
and add subs... get something you'd want to
keep even if you upgrade the rest of the speakers.
use the hidden equalizer *hold down 5 while turning the radio on*
with the powered sub, you can let the stock
speakers do their thing without trying to
produce lowbass as well...
i may replace the stock speakers... but not
cause i'm unhappy with the sound, only cause
i'll prolly add a flip up dvd player with
headrest screens... and i don't want to have
to deal with the hassle of figuring out how
to get the stock amps and speakers to work with
a new headunit.
try the powered sub if you don't already have
one... then work your way around the rest.
you might be happy with the sound after the
sub alone.

Even if you then boost the power on the sub's amp, you will distort the low end.
Purchase some crossovers with the sub instead.

Okay, maybe my initial comment was a little harsh, but the pun was irresistibly stupid...
And no offense to those who buy them -- they have one hell of a marketing campaign, but if you shop around, you'll find pretty much any respectable system will sound better for much less money.
Sony has never produced any audio equipment that was particularly good. Not awful (like Fosgate), but not good. Most Japanese amps are of very poor quality, for some reason. Sony is just one example.
