well I tried another throttle body today and still no luck. I am getting the error in basic settings on my throttle body 97 1.8t. today I borrowed another car with a good throttle body and it would not calibrate either, and mine worked just fine on the other car. So now what, guess I am going to be checking wireing????? I know this engine was swapped out at some point with a Passat engine but I don't think that would have anything to do with it since it has the correct throttle body for the car!
any suggestions?

I also can't clear the 17967 code for fault in basic settings it just come back instantly

well the ECU was my problem, i swapped ECU's and everything is perfect, car runs great throttle body calibrates and the car also shifts just fine now!
I decided to check the ECU and it had been replaced with a junk yard unit. not sure if it is correct for the car or not, I had a spare one from my old 99, the numbers are different but it seems to work just fine. I assumed since the engine and throttle body is interchangeable from 97-99 that the ecu is as well so I tried it. I get no codes and it all works. drove it around the block and transmission is perfect, before it would not shift properly at all (I was getting a kickdown short fault which is also part of the throttle body from what I found)
