Default Night Panel feature????? Read!

I was reading Gramps post about turning off the dash lights, when I thought about one feature of the Saab that I loved when I was shopping for cars. The 9-3 has a buton on the dash that reads "Night Panel" or something like that...anyways, it turnns off all dashlights, radio lights, etc. EXCEPT the RPMS!! Very cool feature for fast night driving in a very dark area.
Can anybody think of a way this could be accomplished on the A4? I have no electrical expericnce at all, so I do not know if this is even possible??
-Stu Koch
99 2.8qts

Default Just wondering...why is this such a wonderful feature?

Yes, it's kinda cool, but is it really worth contemplating trying to achieve this out of your A4?
JT 99' 1.8Tqms

Like I said, it is great for night racing, nothing but the rpms to pay attention to. If you have doubts I would take a look at the Sabb, you will see that it is a truely great feature.
And hey, why not contemplate it? All I have are 2 finals, and a 14 page essay on the history of music due tommorow morning! Ahh...1 more semester!!
-Stu

Default Some Audis had this.....

I remember reading in a 900 brochure a couple years ago and it saying that Saab had this feature and the salesman at the car show said "No one else has ever made a programable light feature on a car dash before"....And that's when he got in trouble, I busted him on that one:
The 1986 & 1987 Audi Coupe GTs had this feature with their digital display. You could turn off all info but the speedo, and clock, and then you could even turn off the clock and only have the speedo on. If your fuel got low, that display would come back on, if your engine got hot, the coolant display would come back on, etc.
Christian J. Long

Correction...My wife has a '99 9-3 with the night panel feature. It turns off all instrument lights except the Speedo, not the Tach.
Haven't used it yet, but I guess it could be nice when doing some long distance night driving where you don't need any of the other instruments.
Dave
'97 1.8TQMS, Wett, Eibach/Koni (soon to have 17in Borbet Type-Ts and S-02s)
Sorry, I'm a wheel novice.
I don't know the weight nor do I know what you mean by "hub centric"
I considered the Type-E, but they look too much like the stock 5-spoke wheels.
