My wife being a chemist and us discussing tires suggested filling tires with something other than air. According to her, filling tires with an inert gas like Nitrogen would be a better than air because it's not as adversely effected by the tires change in temperature. That would give you better performance, wear, and in most cases better fuel economy.
So my two questions: 1. Has anyone tried this before; 2. Where could I go to get my tires filled with Nitrogen if it is in fact a good idea?

around here offer it. IIRC they charge like $3/per tire. They claim that the tire will run cooler, therefore increasing treadwear...yada...yada....yada....
I highly doubt that there will be a notable difference, but hell for $18, it's worth a shot.

no matter what the ambient temp changes to or racing around a track heating it up -- you'll be maintaining more consistent pressure.
the yadda, yadda part is ... by replacing oxygen with nitrogen, there is less oxidation to breakdown tires.
if anything, you should get better gas mileage since you'd be running the tire at the correct 36 psi (for example) at all times.
