I read 0-60mph times for the A4 1.8T Sport in CAR (July issue, I don't know how I missed that until now) and it's no wonder that the 180hp version is not offered here - only 7.2 seconds - only .1 second slower than the 2.8.
As would anyone, I would like to see the 180hp come over to North America, but Audi would have to up the V6 output to about 225hp+ (think Acura 3.2TL) in order for 2.8 sales not to be eaten up by 1.8T. remember that only 1/5 of A4s are 2.8s.
btw, I also noticed in the picture that the 1.8T Sport also has clear lens signal lights. will the '00 models have these too? Is there anyone who even likes those ample coloured signal lights? Not me.

I purchased the 2.8 for more than the V6. I wanted the leather and wood and all the goodies. And I bet most 2.8ers probably feel the same. Audi should bring the 180hp 1.8T here. It wouldn't compromise too many 2.8 sales. I was interested in the luxury of the 2.8. I would of purchased a 1.8T and chipped it if it came with the same options as the 2.8, but it doesn't.
So bring on the 180hp A4 1.8T Audi, it'll make a lot of potential 1.8T buyers happy.

Yes, my feelings exactly. I am "borrowing" my room mate's Probe GT whilst my A4 is in the shop (snif, snif, 1st gear noise) and this car's ride is knocking some fillings out! I miss the comfort of my A4.
BTW, I am having my baby serviced at McGill here in Houston. I got a loaner car but its a Corolla. YUCK! But its wheels. Rod East wouldn't even step as low as to put me in a VW, AKA a facist Audi.
Cheers

I agree wholeheartedly. The 2.8 has more advantages than just 30hp, although those don't necessarily appeal to all buyers. The cars are quite distinct, I agree that the 180hp 1.8t probably wouldn't canibalize many 2.8 sales. Many Americans just prefer 6 cylinders to 4.

...it's a DOT (U.S.) law that requires the yellow reflector in the corner-marker (turn signal housings). Basically the car must have a yellow reflector at the front and a red reflector at the rear which are visible from the side of the car. In Europe they don't have this law, thus the "clear" corner markers. The U.S. '00 A4's will continue to have the yellow reflectors.

Some japanese cars that come with clear corner lights? Maxima, CL, old TL, some others have clear corners. But they still have orange lights. Or do the orange bumper lights count as what you refered to? I notice A4's dont have those bumper lights...

I guess I should have been a little more clear, the car has to have a yellow reflector somewhere up front visible from the side. Most of the Japanese cars put a reflector in the side of the bumper and then they have a "clear" corner.
