RS6 - Hotter than you Think
Audi's much anticipated RS6 is purportedly snagged on some cooling issues according to sources close to the Quattro division project. The RS6 is driven by a 460-hp all-alloy V8 - jointly developed with British engineering stalwart Cosworth Technology - the very same firm responsible for the RS4's screamer.
Apparently recent testing has shown buildup and heat retention is so intense at sustained full throttle - that melting of brake components and other items is taking place under the hood. Here at LLTEK we do not believe this is a real concern in the long run if indeed the problem really does exist. More likely it is merely an engineering hurdle that will be addressed in the normal course of high performance automobile development. The next thing you know someone will be complaining about the need for heat shields on the RS6 - the kind space shuttles use on re-entry.
The RS6 comes on the heels of success won by the RS4. The design echoes many features found in the RS4: similar front and rear spoilers, the red and silver RS badging and 255/35 ZR18 tires. Although this is a luxury car - inside the cabin, sports buckets seats and carbon fiber signal its readiness for driving experiences beyond Friday night at the opera. Rumor has it that the RS6 (capable of 0-60mph sprints in a blistering 4.7 seconds) will employ "quattro"and six speed tiptronics technology excluding the manual gearbox option in deference to the car's "character". Available in Avant and saloon models, the RS6's top speed will be limited to 155mph while it is estimated that without restrictions the car could do better than 180mph.

Does anyone else doubt the brakes melting rumor?
Seems like the tires or some other critical part would melt before the brakes would, especially given that the brakes are in a cooler spot, relatively speaking. Plus, they are designed for the frikkin hot temps caused by using them.

Gimme a break. Since when did little ol machine shop LLtek become this huge quality standards and engineering house? Next thing you know, they'll be inspecting cockpit door locks.
