Default Noise on startup

I was wondering if anyone has had this happen to their A4. When I startup my car in the morning or when it actually has cooled off a bit. I get a weird noise like two pieces of metel hitting each other. From under the car like from the tranny. If I turn off the car right after the noise and I start it again it does not happen. If anyone can help me find what the heck this is it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Wil

Default I would highly recommend having someone start the car for you

and try to see where the noise is coming from. be careful: they might steal your car.

Default I hear that sometimes

Don't know what the hell it is, but nothing's fallen off for 125k miles, so I guess it's a "normal" noise.

Default valve chatter?

It happens to many cars on startup due to the fact that there is no oil up there at the top of the engine when you start it in the morning. It's usually not a problem. Just live with it.

Default I don't think he means that...

I often hear a "cloinking* (Like two pieces of metal banging against each other) noise right before the starter motor turns over the engine. I can feel it through the pedal, too.

Default I'm not sure, though

What he described sounded familiar, but maybe he was talking about a noisy valve train.
