Noisy Fuel Pump - is it a problem?

Does it happen only when your pretty low on fuel?
Mine makes a high pitched whining / beeping sound when I have less than 30miles left in the tank, which I try to not let happen that often
Changed my fuel filter 30k miles ago. I think it only needs to be replaced every 60k miles.

Its like a hum - like a fridge compressor with a bit more buzz.
Its definantly the fuel pump - i put my ear under the tank and it was the loudest there.
It seems to happen with any amount of fuel. I had a full tank with 20k's driven on it and I could hear it when I got out of the car.
