Default NOKIA Handsfree Install (info and procedures...long)...

Ive received many emails asking about the mounting bracket that I have for my Nokia Handsfree kit. Here are the details of the mount and the installation...

The Nokia Handsfree kit I used was the CARK 91H. The reason for this is that the kit comes with the privacy handset. I mounted this in the center arm-rest. My reasoning for utilizing the privacy handset are just that...privacy. Also, if a passenger needs to use the phone privately, either in the front or in the back, the phone can be used. All I have to do is swing the armrest back and there you go...phone is available for use.

The mount itself is a custom design. As we can see, I have the 99.5 interior. The only other makers of a similar mount are Panavise and Pro-Fit-International. I called to see if one was available and they had NONE. Furthermore, by looking at their previous mounts, they attach to the radio section, rather than the climate control section. This for me presented an asthetic problem. First of all, the phone would be too high. NOT FOR ME!! Secondly, I was worried about the wires. I wanted a clean install and thus, the wires coming from the holder itself would have to be as hidden as possible. As you can see from the pics, its not that bad. I removed the center plastic piece that surrounds the radio and climate control area and snipped away at the bottom right corner, enough so that the wires go through and still have functionality of the ashtray.

The wiring was straight forward and very easy to do. I utilized the FAQs written for the install. For the DB25 in the trunk (bought at Radio Shack), I used the crimp style connectors, and then soldered them. This made connections easier to accomplish and with the extra step of soldering them, made the connections very stable. The RJ45 phone jack (also bought at Radio Shack) is pretty straight forward. HOWEVER, the pin placement shown in one of the FAQ is reversed. Pin 1 is on the RIGHT and moves sequentially from there (Pin 8 is therefore on the left).

Two 4-foot RJ45 patch cords were used to make the connections under the armrest section. Easy and very straight forward.

I also used an external antenna. The one I used was the AS dual mode antenna. This was mounted on the rear window, center. The wire then runs along the headliner, down the pillar, into the trunk, under the rear seat, along the passenger side of the car, to the front, where it connects with the handset holder. I used about 20 feet of cable for this. I couldve ran the wire along the center of the car to the front, but because when I did, a slight hump showed through the carpet in the rear...not asthetically pleasing.

I hope that I havent left anything out in terms of the install. As for the custom mount, I am looking into providing everyone with a materials list, specs, and instructions. I am also looking into mass producing it for those that would just like to buy it. I will get back to everyone regarding this in the next couple of days.

I hope this has helped those that have asked. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email. Thanks for the great response everyone!!

It looks fantastic. Can you post instructions on how to remove the climate control unit?

Climate Control Unite was never removed. Only radio and plastic trim.
