Default Now I've done it... killed my key FOB in the washing machine

Sounds like I need to:

1) buy a new FOB (off Ebay?)
2) swap uncut key with my old key
3) program per Tech section

Is that about it? BTW, mine's a '99 Passat

Default take it apart and dry it. might work after that

never hurts to try. otherwise ebay is the way to go if you can still read the fcc id numbers on the remote itself

Default Mine got washed. They're sealed pretty good; only a little water actually got inside.

Assuming you didn't wash it in hot water or run it through the dryer, it might not be that bad.

I opened mine, and blotted out the wet spots. Then I took a blow dryer to the casing before I put the guts back in. I had to stick the key in the ignition before the car would respond to the remote, but it's been fine ever since.

I don't know if yours is any different, but my B7 key was pretty difficult to put back together. You might want to pay careful attention to how it's assembled when you take it apart.

Default Dropped mine down an elevator shaft...

I was exiting the lift on the 4th floor, pulling my keys out of my pocket. The keychain broke and the keys fell right down the gap between the car and the shaft. I was able to call building maintenance, they locked the elevator and we went to the bottom to see if we could find it. I found two OTHER sets of keys and I found the blade to mine. I never did find the remote. There was a good 4 inches of muck at the bottom of the lift. It served as a drainage/overflow area for the A/C's and such, it was disgusting.
