Default I like the 5-30 diesel oil, very very good stuff. I use it in my Cummins truck with bypass filter...

it stays sooo nice and clean and oil samples tested come back with a near perfect bill-o-health. ;-)

Default GC or 5w-30 Mobil 1 T&SUV for 1.8t. For the V6, pick an oil based on his driving...

Say, if he does all longer than 10 miles trips and drives like 10k a year, no reason not to use something as basic as Mobil Clean 10w-40 or Havoline or Syntec Blend. Cold-Cranking will not be an issue above -10f with those oils. I dunno what climate you are in, but if it's warm 15w-40 would do the same thing, with lowered consumption. 5w-40s are a luxury and frankly, not that spectacular in comparison to a good 10w-40 blend. High-Miles oils are probally best for the V6 with it's delicate seals. I use a lot of Castrol GTX HM. It's really thick. The 5w-30 GTX HM is totally fat for winters. It stopped consumption entirely on my Mother-in-Laws 12v A6. That is with a shot of 10w-40 HM in there too. The 10w-40 is really thick, thick enough to kill mpg, but will eliminate consumption...important in Sr citizen applications...no disrespect. So, yeah, if he likes changing oil (I skip the belly pan all together) plain old 10w-40, but HiMi oils offer so much for that engine, it's hard to NOT use them in this application. GTX HM...works. I get 2 big 5q jugs, one 5w-30 and one 10w-40 and use the 5w-30 until it's empty and top-off with 10w-40. The 5w-30 is very close to a 5w-40 anyway. Cold-cranking fun and seal conditoning for $2/q. 6000-8000 miles intervals if he does not do all short trips. 5w-40 is a waste of money and not that good.

lol, on a side note, I just picked up some Havoline 5w-20 for the Acura. I already have some Havoline Synth 5w-30 here, but it has no moly for break-in.

Default LOL You are still asking about this?! =-P

Elf Excellium LDX 5w40..I already told you how to get it through a distributor. Enough said. If you don't want to buy it by the case..you can get it in the link for $7 per liter. I get it for $5.50 per liter by buying it in cases of 18L. I have nothing more to say on the matter.

Default Try $4.95/qt at the time I bought my couple of case loads just a few months ago.

Remember, the website does not reveal the preferred customer discount until after you order. It will show the minimum suggested retail of $6.85 until you go well within the order confirmation process.

If you do not like the watered-down AFL 5w-40, go with the AMO 10w-40 Synthetic High Performance which is almost exactly the same as the old AFL 5w-40 in almost every specification and slightly cheaper.

The HDD 5w-30 is likely one of the world's best engineered oils and works well in just about all our Audi engines which still have good compression and oil rings. Upside = keep it in a normally aspirated engine that does not burn much oil for upto 20,000 miles without worry. Downside = it's pricy at between $6.45-6.75 per quart (MSRP of $8.75).
