Default which O2 sensor is it?

My CEL is back on and this time it's P0153, heated O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1. I searched the forums but couldn't find where it's located exactly, the only thing I found out is that Bank 2 means it's on the driver's side. Is Sensor 1 a pre-cat sensor that's located on the manifold? I know it's best to buy all four when something like this happens but I don't have $400+ right now. And I can almost see my gas gauge drop as I'm driving, my gas mileage has definitely decreased lately.

This is an opinion, not knowledge. I do not share it. Replace the bad O2.

Er, I think you meant to say:

Yes, driver's side (in the US).

So did you find it? Did you buy the tools to fix it? Did you buy the part to fix it? Did you by an OBD reader or VAG-COM to reset the MIL code? Welcome to the DIY Audiworld. Good Luck.Been there . Fixed that.

Bought the OEM sensor, rented O2 socket from autozone, replaced the sensor. CEL went off on its own after ~250 miles. Have more power now and it seems to run better. Glad this turned out the way it did. This was one of the easier projects I've done on my b5. Very rewarding. I have yet to get a vag com. But I will in near future

Pool your resources and try and find a wholesale Audi parts seller. With the 96 2.8 your gonna need it. I put 600,000km on mine before I sold it.
