Default O2 sensor fault code-I feel my pocket being picked by Audi!

I just had my computer checked due to the CHECK ENGINE light coming on and it is saying that I have a O2 fault (Bank 2, Sensor 1).

Can someone tell me if this could have been caused by a bad tank of gas, loose gas cap, etc. or if it in fact means I have a faulty O2 sensor???

I am assuming that if the light doesn't come again, it was simply a freak incident...

Also, I have the Audi Assured extended warranty and was wondering if a new O2 sensor would be covered...it doesn't specifically say so in the warranty but there have been other items that aren't listed that the dealer has covered..
Thanks,
Konyo

Default It may be covered under the emissions warranty.

Check your manuals. There should be a section on emissions components, and I think Andy posted the other day saying its 80K miles or something like that.

Default Info..

If you can get a Vag tool I can explain how to do an 02 sensor age time test. It plots the ms of recovery and tells you if your 02 is working. Its the only way to realy tell whats going on with the sensor. As o2's age they slow down. You want a nice fast acting o2 sensor. I upgraded to the new style units that came on the DBW cars. You can tell as the 97-99 cars had no heat shield and had black wires. The new ones have a heat shield and brown wires. You want the Brown wire unit. Hint: If your warranty does not cover it (it should) and you must buy one get one from the Vw dealer. 00 passat 1.8t.. Saves you like $75.. Same part.

I also have the audi assured extended warranty. My check engine light came on and the dealership replaced an oxygen sensor. It should be covered.
