Default OBD II and hot weather

This morning the CHECK engine light was on. All gauges look normal and engine seemed normal. So after my brief 4 mile commute I call the service dept. and explained that after 5 days of having the car sit in driveway ( I was driving my summer car, a Miata ) the check engine light appeared.
They said check the gas cap tightness...doubtful as it was OK before I left it idle for 5 days. Upon that they volunteered that due to the high heat that gas vapors have caused a false reading for the sensor, huh? Plus they had many similar calls from other Audi owners these last few days.
Bottom line is to drive around and if it doesn't go away call them.
Qestion is has anyone else has experienced this? Thanks as if true this would point to an problem that needs to be addressed, ie: false vs. real engine malfunction.
Stay cooooooooooooooooool !!!!!!!!

Default Re: OBD II and hot weather

The check engine light has almost nothing to do with engine functionality (exc. for o2 sensor). The light means that the obd system found an air quality-relevant systems parameter out of norm. Tis just means that the air pollution equipment may be faulty, nothing else.
