Default OBD-II Reader from Autozone and Ross Tech Vag-Com Reading discrepancy

Hello Everyone
I have 1996 Audi A4 Quattro and I had check engine light
I got it read several times at Autozone and it all came back as Misfire Cylinder 1 P0301

I made continuous effort to clear the code by swapping coil around, wires, replace plugs and re gaped them. I also ran a compression test and currently running fuel injector cleaners.

Well.. I got Ross-Tech Lite version of their software and I read engine codes and It gave me back only
Fuel Injector Cylinder #4 Electrical Malfunction

I was wondering this lite software was just giving me a bullcrap... I hit clear the code and it cleared the check engine light....

I guess it was working..??

Well

I am going to drive 50+miles to see if that light comes back.. if it does I will go to an Autozone and get the code read there as well as bring my laptop to read the code simultaneously to see what this program offers.

Do you guys know what is going on??

I constantly get people who bring that autozone printout garbage and it says all kinds of off the wall codes, like trans solenoids and what not. When hooked to vagcom, All the codes pulled are completely different descriptions but the same P number.

Those are two different codes though, it's not just a difference in the code system. But that doesn't mean either system is at fault. If you cleared the codes, then took a reading with another system, you might be throwing different codes at different times.

Now if you read it with OBD, then read it with VAG-COM (VCDS lite) without clearing the codes, we might have an issue.

Work with VCDS lite and troubleshoot your car, not different codes taken at different times.

I guess it was just throwing different code at different time

light came back on and I only got P0301 on either device

Thanks!
