Default Octane question for a '97 1.8TQ Automatic

Anyone know if damage is done to the car's engine when using 89 rather than 93 octane? I do notice picking/knocking when using 89 octane, but does any damage occur or gas mileage decline?

Thanks

Default i have never thought twice about putting anything less than 91 into my car.

not worth the consequences IMO. These cars are enough work as it is, why add unneccessary problems?

Default Do a search on my UID...

I posted the results of regular vs premium.

In a nut shell, regular will end up costing you more money in the long run due to decreased mpg.

Default Depends on driving style.Granny or long hwy roadtrips do not need it. Regular burns cleaner anyway.

That's why super NEEDS more detergent additives.

You'd be absolutely stupid to run gas that causes audible pinging and knocking.

Default maybe for the 1.8T

89 doesn't seem to ping, knock, or get much less gas mileage than 93 on my 30v. I like to run seafoam a lot, though.
