I have a '99 A4Q and am having a problem with the clutch, I think. The problem is a whinning/slipping sound I'm getting when starting out in first gear. The sound only occurs after a lot of stop and go driving, and the clutch acts like it's engaging sooner than usual. The clutch does not actually slip though.
I took it to a dealer but nobody there heard anything like it before, they think it might be the throwout bearing. I'm planning to have them tear out the trans and try and find the cause.
Has anybody had a similar problem.
John Heagy

Same problem here occurs every now and then. I am bringing it to the dealer Monday to see what is going on, pisses me off when I hear that noise. People have said that its a belt tensioner (doubt it) or a clutch master. I will soon find out.
99 1.8TQM h&r/bil, Gchip, r-28s and other crap...
