Noticed today that i am leaking power steering fluid. This has been hapening for a while now but never the whole thing. It looks like its coming from the steering rack on the driver side. Anyone have any past experience with this and is it safe to drive with out any fluid? What needs to be replaced? Any suggestions? Any help?

Default i drove w/o fluid once...

you have to be pretty strong to turn the wheel. I was tired as hell afterwards. My power steering cooler broke and leaked all the fluid.

Default Rack is shot and needs replacement.

Jretal did a quick write up...just so you can see what kind of mess you're getting into. Search.

Default OT: I need a new steering rack in my Firebird, so I was dreading that job. I looked...

in my Chilton repair manual and you wouldn't believe how easy it is. It's also cheap. New racks can be had for $150. What do A4 racks cost, $600 new?
