Does anyone know how much oil a 1.8t consumes every three thousand miles? I usually need to add a quart in between oil changes. Is this normal?

well, 1qt in 3K miles is not unusual, but do you have any visible oil leaks?

I thought I did immediately after my most recent oil change. A few days after that I couldn't find any signs of a leak. Does using synthetic increase the chances of a leak?

well, using a thinner oil grade increases chances of a leak, synthetic or not.
