Default Oil BT: Is Shell "Rotella 5W-40 Synthetic" OK for a 2.8L 30V?

$13/Gallon at Wal-Mart.

Not bad since Mobil 1 5W-40 Truck/SUV won't be available much longer.

http://www.rotella.com/products/rotella_t_synthetic.html</a

Default M1 5W40 will continue to be sold...

they are just playing marketing games with the labels on the bottles.

Default Yes. The Shell Rotella 5W 40 synthetic...

is on the list of AudiJunkie approved oils for the V6. Although, you can still use the new M1 5W 40.

Default Diesel-rated wax isomerate. Excellent for 1.8t and 2.8, but I'd rather use a hi-mi oil in the V6...

Synthetic is not needed in a V6. A Hi-Mi oil like GTX is just as good. Their 5w-30 is so thick as to me indistinguishable from a 5w-40. 5w-30 in winter and 10w-40 in summer, can't go wrong. Your seals will thank you. Rotella could go maybe a few miles farther, like 8000-9000 max verses a lil less for a good HM oil, like 6000-8000. Otherwise they both do the same thing with the exception of seal-conditioning. If you want a better synth then Rotella, get some MaxLife Synth.

Default last I heard there was some uncertainty whether the new 5w40 would be gasoline rated

They would lose too much money by doing so. I bet it will have a dual rating.
