I noticed there was quite a bit of oil buildup all over the hoses down the engine bay (behind the intake manifold). Not sure if there are hoses known to rupture over time. Just kina throwin it out there if anyone else has come across this.

my hand back in that area. Looks like it's been leaking for quite sometime b/c the buildup is THICK. I replaced the L-hose several months back, but it doesn't look like leftover residue from that. I'll have to do further investigation when I have more time. Thought maybe there was another common area these hoses split, other than the L-hose.

First clean it the area and see what happens. It's not an oil leak technically its a breather leak, oil just goes along for the ride. :-)

it's called the "vacuum pump", the hard plastic piece between the "L" hose and the rest of that hose mess. It's got 3 hose ports on it, one of them going off in about a 45 degree angle downwards towards the PCV valve. Replace that part, clean up all the hoses prior to reassembly, and then clean off the engine.
Sometimes, the entire hose setup for the PCV system can become deteriorated over time due to repetitive exposure to hot oil. Not a bad idea to replace it all, wouldn't cost much, maybe $100 even at retail prices. But that vacuum pump is usually the culprit on the 1.8T's.
