I bought my car with 13.5k miles, the dealer said they did an oil change then. I took an auto cross class last weekend at 17k miles. Should I change my oil now,or just wait till the 20k free one from Audi.
Also, I was getting 7.8 mpg so my car was running hard.

The way I see it - it can't hurt to change your oil more frequently.
I would think that every 5k miles is sufficient, this is even more recommended if you are chipped / drive hard.
It appears that dealers service recommendations call for them to change your oil filter only at every other oil change.
Change it yourself rather than using 'inferior' Quick Lube places.
Use synthetic.
Hey, we get 'free' service for a few years...what's an extra $80 per year for something like an oil change that may prevent a host of problems.

If regular oil, then changing it every 3000-4000 isnt a bad idea anyway despite the "recommended" 10k interval from AoA. If synthetic, dont sweat it.
By the way, ther eare 2 things that are very hard on oil. Very short drive use - where the engine never warms up - the oil never gets to purge lighter contaminates thru evaporation, and not allowing any cooldown after hard drivign with a turbo. So, if after each run at your autocross, you immediately shut the motor off, then you probably have some cooked oil in there because of the hot turbo. Synthetic oil is much more immune to this than refular oil. Rule of thumb is you should "cool" the turbo by idling for a minute or two before shutting off after a spirited run.

....me personally, if the car has synthetic oil in it now I wouldn't bother changing it. If you're running conventional oil then I probably would change it.
