Default Oil cooler perhaps, it's right where the filter attaches

and both oil and coolent travel trough it

Known to go bad ocasionally

Cylinder head gasket went boom! Your engine is in for some serious repair.

Default NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I dunno how many times I need to explain this.

Oil in the coolant does not mean head gasket. Never has, never will. No no no no no.

Say it with me: Oil in coolant is a leaking oil cooler. Coolant in the oil can be many many things, with the head gasket being low on the list.

Coolant in the cylinder is a head gasket.

Default Just a quick comment here. When I recently swapped the motor in my B5, the oil cooler was NASTY!!

It was about as crusty and plugged up as something can get. The car had just shy of 90,000 miles on it. Start with the oil cooler, it's an easy swap.

I also agree with Unpimp Ze Auto.

Hello
my name is Harry I have a 2012 Audi A8L 4.2 V8
i have Coolent in my Engine oil but no oil in the cooling system. I came to find out my engine oils filters housing gaskets bad and also coolant pipe by the back the fire wall area. Well long story short I changed the pipe and Seals and after putting everything back together added some Coolant I drained the old oil (I cheched it was clean no coolant at all).the made sure no leaks and that all was good
Before I start the car but noticed the coolant tank a little low and I started adding cool but I could hear coolant leaking into the engine because the oil cap was still open. I opened the engine oil drain plug
and 1st thing I got coming out is clean water that finished then clean oil. I did not the car I took everything back off to make sure i didn’t install anything incorrectly and Aldo replaced the oil cooler seal already this time around... my question is is there maybe some hose I could have connected incorrectly or I missed something or if you can give me some ideas where the coolant can possibly enter the engine oil from.again thank you for your help

Well first off, this is the B5 forum. You should be posting in the appropriate forum. I would post there. As for your symptoms, if you installed the oil cooler correctly and are still getting the same symptoms, then I’m afraid the next place to look is the head gasket.
