Default Oil Drain Plug stuck on 1.8t , someone please help.....

Today I went to do my first oil change on my own, but I can't get the damn drain plug off, its on really tight, I think last time it went to the dealership they overtorqued it. I really don't want to take it back to the dealership because of bad expirances there. I tried 10w-40 on it but that didn't work. Anyone have any suggestions thanks.

If you have decent tools (read: not those stubby Craftsman wrenches), you should be able to get enough torque to loosen it up. When I did mine, it was tighter than I thought it needed to be, but I did get it off.

It may be a little easier when it's a little warm.

Default or if you have those stubby craftsman wrenches..

get a pipe and put it on the end of the wrench and you will have plenty of leverage to loosen it.

Good luck,

Peter

I just experienced the exact same thing... I went to Home Depot and a long box end and moderately swung a dead blow hammer at it. Loosened right away. FYI, nobody mentioned yet, but Do Be Careful. The oil pan is aluminum, and will strip if not respected!

Default The answer......

Use a jack to apply pressure to the wrench until it breaks lose. Slap the wrech on there, put a jack under the handle, and start jacking it up. Believe me, the wrench is not torque more than the 3000 pounds of your car's weight.
