Default Oil filter change questions.

I was browsing around, looking for information and I've seen many conflicting reports.

I change my oil every 5k miles or so. But I've seen that people who do this normally change their filter every OTHER change (ie 10k miles).

is it really important to change the filter every 5k oil change, or is that just overkill?

also...where is a brick and mortar place to buy amsoil?

Default Audi has an OEM 30k KM filter.. the dealerships don't even change it every time under scheduled serv

I got the 30K KM filter at my 10K tune up. They won't change the filter at 20K I'm pretty sure, unless I request it, and possibly have to pay for it.

Default i made it a habit to toss the filter with every change....10k should be no problem though...

i gotta relocate the filter on my next change...i'm starting to hate it.

Default If you're already under there...why wouldn't you do it?

Its only a couple of extra dollars, and IMO, well worth the piece of mind.

Default because it's farking impossible to get to my filter.

there is a huge support column from the bottom, and there is almost no room to take it off from the top (even with the coolant tank moved). plus I don't have a single oil filter wrench that will fit it.

there is a oil changing place I take it to with my own oil and filter, and they to a bang-up job (in under 20 minutes) for 16 bucks. They even use the right size crush washer too

Check it out...if u don't wanna change the oil filter every 5k, audi has a solution. The long lasting oil filter(black with white letters) This is what service uses. They do not change the oil filter every 5k, they change it every 10K. The long lasting filter has 3 extra layers of paper filter...
