Default Oil light

The "oil" light that blinks at start up on the odometer has been on for a few days. I changed the oil, yet the light still flashes at start up. The owners manual says that the dealer resets that light assuming the owner would take the car into a dealer to change the oil. Can I reset this myself?

Default For a 97 A4 you need diagnostic software or the dealer to reset it.

I have a 97, trust me I am 100% correct on this. I use VagCom to reset mine. VagCom of course does much more than that and is the best tool you can have for your car. Either get the software and cable, find someone who has one, or pay the dealer to reset it for you. Your year A4 is not one that resets by using the cluster *****.

Default Dealer will probably charge $35 or more to reset the light if they didn't the oil.

Went through this myself (on a 97) just last week.

Where are you located? Someone with a VAG can reset it for you.

Default It's easy to do. But dealers won't help you unless you pay.

All they have to do is plug your car into the computer - punch in a code and it's done. But as it was explained to me on this forum when I complained about the cost - dealers are out to make money, so unless you have a VERY good relationship with them - get used to the flashing light or pony up the cash.

Personally - I've gotten used to the flashing light.
