Oil Odor in V-6, 2001

Has anyone experienced an oil odor in the car. Don't appear to have leaky valve cover gaskets nor use much oil, except the oil does disappear suddenly. Meaning no oil usage then quickly goes down. No oil in undercar pan.

Any puffs of smoke coming up from behind the engine on the passenger side?

No smoking that's visible although one day I saw a small puff when wife started car. First thought was valve guide seals but that wouldn't cause odor. Car has only 70,000 on it.

I've been using Mobil 1 for last 20,000 miles.
