Oil Sensor light has come on three times for about a minute during this week - serious, DIY?

If its the level sensor, recheck the level, if in spec replace the oil level sensor, if not add oil.
If its the oil pressure light, change the oil pressure sender, which is located right by the oil cooler where the filter screws on. Its a common failure item, my S4's failed when I first got it and the car didn't run like it had low oil pressure, so I changed it and haven't seen the light since.

to clarify: It's the Oil Can symbol, with the letters SENSOR to the right of it; Owner's Manual says it's a faulty sensor, not a low oil level.

Looking at the manual I see exactly what you are saying. As long as it says sensor and not not nothing (which means oil pressure) you're car should be fine. I suppose you are asking which sensor is defective or is being referred too, good question...
