DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A WAY TO MAKE THE SERVICE REMINDER FOR AN OIL CHANGE IN THE TRIP ODOMETER GO AWAY OR TURN OFF WITHOUT GOING TO THE DEALER? I BOUGHT A 96 A4 IN DEC AND CHANGED THE OIL FOR THE FIRST TIME MYSELF A FEW WEEKS AGO AND IT FLASHING OIL, OIL, OIL IN THE TRIP ODOMETER I GUESS FOR SERVICE FROM WHAT THE OWNERS MANUAL SAYS. DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT IN TO THE AUDI DEALER FOR A SPECIAL TOOL LIKE ON A BMW OR CAN YOU TURN IT OFF YOURSELF. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPREICATED.

I use high performance oil and do it myself. My dealer wants to charge me $25 just to reset the stupid indicator. NO THANKS IDIOTS. I just drive around with the thing blinking Oil, Oil, Oil for the first few seconds. Funny how you can learn to ignore this stuff after a while.<br>

What a rip-off....$25 for what seems like 15 minutes of work...probably not even that much. I just started changing my own oil on my A4 and I haven't dealt with the flashing reminder yet. Only choices besides the dealer to get the light reset would be an independent shop that has the VAG tool or someone that has a laptop and the VAG-like software (can't remember the name of the software).<p>Andy Hedin<br>'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, ABT Filter, Euro Headlights...<br>

The tech can set it so that the interval on when it flashes can be up to 100,000 Kilometers (all values in the VAG tools are in Metric). My friend who is an Audi tech set another friend's 97 A4 to only remind for oil change every 100,000 km. See if you can get your dealer to do that.<p>Christian J. Long
