oil sludge
my 2001 A4 1.8 turbo's oil presure light comes on...but only on occassion. I'm pretty sure it has to do with "oil sludge". it is still getting oil to the top of the block over the rocker arms. I intend to change the oil this weekend is there an additive that i can put in to clean the sludge out before i dump the old oil???

yeah, rocker arms
dont put additives in it, the manual says NOT to. It just gives a dealership another reason to void your warranty.
Be smart and flush the system using regular dino oil. Drain the oil, change the filter, fill it with dino... run it for 12mins. Use 1 filter for the flushing and when done flushing put a fresh filter on it. Keep flushing it till the oil comes out clean (like it went in the motor). This is a good technique to clean out the engine.
The oil pressure problem is caused by the oil pickup tube being blocked... to get at the oil pickup tube you really need to have the car on a lift so you can drop the subframe a lil bit and remove the oil sump.
By the way, there are no rocker arms, I also question just how knowledgeable you are as you are suggesting that a DOHC 5v motor has rocker arms. You would be best off just taking it in to a dealer and letting them do the work.

5w30, should be just fine
but the ZVW-352-540-S belgium castrol is 5w40, which is what I'd run, or a 0w40 mobil european formula.
Remember its HOT HOT soup coming out of that sump once you've run it... and the objective is to use the hot soup in the engine and then drain it while hot. BE CAREFUL.

i have a couple of questions on that technique.
first, you flush it only once with the new filter. then you remove the filter and then do you just keep pouring in the new oil until it comes out as clean as new?
can you be more precise in your steps please. i'm going to do this during my next oil change.
thanks a bunch,
alen

notes...
drain the old oil from the car.
put new filter on car.
fill with fresh dino.
run for 12 mins at 3K rpm.
shut car off.
drain nasty dino oil.
put drain plug back in.
fill with oil again.
start and run for 12mins at 3K rpm.
shut car off.
drain nasty dino oil out.
Keep doing this using fresh dino oil till the engine has purged itself of its nasties. the oil will come out clear on the 3rd try ususally. The cleaner the oil coming out the cleaner your engine is so to speak.
put a new filter in before you begin running the dino oil. your old filter is already filled with shyt, lets use a fresh one.
once you done filling/running/draining because the oil finally comes out clean, then you change the filter to a fresh one and put synthetic in.

Hmm... I'm wondering if maybe using a dirty filter or forcing a filter into bypass might be good.
If you keep using a clean filter, you might get a false sense of clean if the filter keeps picking crap up. But if you have a filter that's bypassing the filtering mechanism, when the oil comes out clean, it's because it's really clean, not because whatever dirt was around was getting caught by the filter.
