Default Is oil too overfilled?

I order a repair shop to change the oil, they charge me for an extra quart, then of course when I get home I check the oil and find it is filled above the arrow marked "MAX" (instead, they filled it to the bottom of the bump above the word "MAX").

Ok, is it really too full with oil? And if so, what is the best way to get the oil down to a safer level, short of draining it all over again?

Geez, I am getting more and more disappointed at how incompetent and greedy the supposed professionals really turn out to be...

Default Drain, or get an extractor and draw some out.

Or take it back to the shop and tell them to do it.

Default $2.00 worth of 1/4" tubing at the hardware store.

Drop it in, put your thumb over the end, pull it out. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Profit.

Default Better be non-silicon tubing and the oil better be cold.

You're saying to snake this tubing down the oil filler opening in the driver's side valve cover? Couldn't it get caught on the hardware in there?

I'd prefer to extract through the dipstick's channel, but I don't think 1/4" tubing will fit in there...

Default remove drain plug under car - use a container to capture oil

I removed the oil drain plug under my car and caught about 1 quart of oil. Then you put the drain plug back in before you lose the rest of your oil. Then you can check your oil level and add as necessary from your container to get it in the proper hatched range on the dipstick. This is pretty easy.

Default Then get 1/8" tubing and snake it down the dipstick tube. Trust me, you won't be the first.

Lots of guys on this forum use an oil extractor pump to change their oil from above.

Default Give them a call. Explain that they over-filled it by a quart, charged you for it, and you will not

be returning to their shop.

Default yeah, but of course they want me to return to their shop to fix it ...

If the dipstick markings aren't the factory specification, what the hell are?
